Discussion 4.1
Ready for a field trip? Well, actually it's field trips! Your mission is to FOCUS ON WHAT YOU ARE CHOOSING TO IGNORE in terms of how people use technology to learn, and what is really out there being used.
You must visit the following three locations (yup, all three).
Post your reflections in the discussion area no later than Saturday this week. Make sure to respond to at least two of the posts of your classmates.
Have fun! Take your family with you. :)
Remember to post an initial response by Saturday and then respond to a minimum of two posts of your classmates during the week. The due date for this discussion is extended in order to give you time to complete the field trips.
You must visit the following three locations (yup, all three).
- A toy store (Kaybee toys, Toys-R-Us, etc)
- A technology store (Best Buy, Circuit City, the Mac Store, etc)
- A place where people go to play games (Dave & Busters', GameWorks, Chuck E. Cheese, etc)
- Spend 20 minutes watching kids, teens, and adults at the store. What are they playing with? How are they using the equipment/toys? What are they learning? Write down your observations in a journal.
- Spend 20 minutes playing with the toys/equipment yourself. You MUST spend 20 minutes - no cheating. Write down observations about what you learned/discovered in a journal.
- Think about it: write down how these toys/pieces of equipment could be used in the classroom to enhance teaching and learning.

Consider these questions:
- How was the naturalistic intelligence used in the earliest periods of history?
- How is this intelligence utilized now in business and modern living?
- How is the logical/mathematical intelligence related to the naturalistic intelligence? Why is the ability to classify things not simply attributed to the logical mathematical intelligence?
