This is it! You made it! By now, you should be putting finishing touches on your Project Three document, rubric, and presentation.

Thoughts

Today we'll discuss features built into ipads, iphones, and ipod touches that are designed for people with special needs, but that are often very useful for many people. The features are categorized as features for vision, hearing, physical needs, and learning needs.

Here is a presentation outlining the iOS accessibility features.

Since this presentation was created, there have been several updates. Here is information on new features in ios 8.

Here are tutorials from the Apple Website about the use of vision, hearing, and physical needs accessibility features:

Hearing:

One of many people’s favorite features is ‘Guided Access’ which allows you to lock iPads into particular apps or limit URLS so only certain parts are clickable. This is very handy with kids so they don’t get out of the app you want them to use, accidentally or on purpose.

Part 2 of Internet Safety and Responsibility

In part 2 of this topic, we're focusing on teaching students to be good Netizens, and to use the Internet responsibly.

One very important topic to discuss with students who use the Internet is Cyberbullying. We want to make sure that our students know how to deal with it if they are ever bullied, and we also want to make sure that they do not bully others. You will have to judge the age and maturity level of your students in regard to the discussion you have in regard to cyberbullying, but they should understand how hurtful it is.

Here are two videos from the Ad Council from their End Cyberbullying campaign. The first one, 'The Talent Show' is geared toward elementary school children, while the second one is geared toward middle and high school students. I suggest having students watch, followed by discussion, and then have them view the video again.

Intellectual Property & Integrity

Students are rarely taught what plagiarism is, how to paraphrase, or how to correctly cite sources until they are in college. This leads to serious problems, with many college students lacking the ability to produce high quality, original work. I created two presentations to clearly and concisely teach this content, almost identical except that one is for K-12 and the other for higher ed. I hope you will use them with your students!
